Frequently Asked
Questions

Everything you need to know about how Power + Pace develops elite fast bowlers — safely, scientifically, and sustainably.

01 What makes Power + Pace different from a regular cricket academy?
+
Unlike traditional academies that coach bowling in isolation, we integrate every facet of a young athlete's growth. Our program is built on an Integrated Development Model — four key pillars: Physical, Biomechanical, Technical, and Cognitive development. Everything we do is specifically designed around your child's physical profile, maturity stage, and unique biomechanics. We are not a standard "run-in-and-bowl" volume centre.
02 Why do you track my child's height and growth so closely?
+
Growth timing heavily impacts both speed development and injury risk. We use established sports science methods — measuring height, sitting height, and leg length — to estimate your child's projected adult height and predict when they will hit their Peak Height Velocity (PHV). Athletes at PHV are at elevated risk for bone stress fractures, so tracking this allows us to proactively protect them by tailoring their training loads appropriately.
03 Why isn't my child bowling more balls in the nets?
+
Bowling too many balls at the wrong time in an athlete's development is one of the leading causes of bone stress fractures. We carefully manage your child's bowling volume relative to their specific growth stage to protect their spine. We will safely increase their bowling volume only as their body shows it is physically ready for it.
04 Why is my child doing so much gym work instead of just bowling?
+
Fast bowling is one of the most physically demanding actions in sport. Our physical assessments follow Long Term Athletic Development (LTAD) principles — building the right foundational strength for your child's age, size, and skill level. Everything we do in the gym has a direct link to the pitch, building the specific strength patterns that will allow your child to bowl faster and stay injury-free.
05 How do you assess and improve bowling speed?
+
We assess speed by looking at two key metrics: approach running speed and ball release speed. The run-up acts as a loading phase — if an athlete is running fast but not bowling fast, energy is "leaking" somewhere in their technique or due to a strength deficiency at the crease. We measure this gap to find exactly where the leak is and correct it.
06 What is an "ActionType" and why does it matter?
+
ActionType is the biomechanical category that best describes how your child's body naturally generates pace. Power + Pace is the only facility in the world that assesses ActionType in cricket. This means that instead of giving generic advice, every technical cue we provide is entirely specific to the way your child's body is naturally built to move — not a cookie-cutter template.
07 How long will it take to see real speed improvements?
+
Speed development follows a specific, long-term pathway. We map out a 2–3 year development roadmap appropriate to each athlete's age and maturity stage. Right now, we build the physical and technical foundations so that when the body is fully ready, speed gains happen quickly, safely, and sustainably — rather than forcing premature gains that increase injury risk.
08 How will we be kept informed of progress?
+
We constantly record and review assessment results, tracking athletes against age- and maturation-adjusted benchmarks rather than generic standards. Following assessments, parents receive structured, plain-language written reports. We walk you through the key findings, highlight specific priorities for the next training phase, and clearly explain what will change in their program going forward.
09 Which program is right for my child?
+
We offer four program tiers: Junior Development (U12) for foundational strength and speed; Development (U13–U17+) for biologically-timed physical development; Performance (U13–U17+) for athletes ready for individualised technical and tactical coaching using #actionTypes profiling; and High Performance (by invitation, 8 places/year) for Premier Cricket and state/national pathway athletes. All programs begin with a mandatory initial assessment so we can place your child in the right tier.
10 Where are you located and when do programs run?
+
We are located at PlayPoint Blacktown, 2A Bessemer St, Blacktown NSW 2148 — home to Australia's first full-length indoor cricket pitch, a purpose-built fast bowling gym, and a fully equipped physiotherapy room. Our 2026 off-season programs run March through September, Monday to Friday 12:00 pm – 9:30 pm. Early bird pricing is available before 25 March 2026.
